atunci, încă nu era urmă de autostradă între Sibiu şi Sebeş... modernizarea şoselei Dej-Baia Mare nici nu era începută...
pe aglomeratul traseu Sibiu-Sebeş, deseori aveai pauze neprogramate... în imagine, o oprire de aproape două ore! - un accident în Cristian, la câteva minute de destinaţie...

more than four yers ago, I started to go Sibiu, at the County Hospital...

on the very crowded Sibiu-Sebeş road, there often were unplanned stops... the picture shows an almost two hours pause! - an accident in Cristian, just a few minutes from destination...
în vara lui 2011 am făcut cunoştinţă cu spitalul şi cu oamenii lui...
atunci am început proiectul de construire al unui nivel suplimentar peste o parte a unei clădiri de 100 de ani, şi peste o aripă de 40 de ani...
când am început proiectul, încă nu se ştia destinaţia spaţiilor; decizia s-a luat pe parcurs: facem o secţie de neurochirurgie cu 30 de locuri şi bloc operator propriu, cu două săli de operaţie;

de atunci, toată conducerea spitalului s-a schimbat... de mai multe ori...
dintr-o exagerată rigurozitate birocratică, proiectul a fost tăiat în două: două proiecte, două autorizaţii, două serii de avize, două etape de construire... adică bani în plus şi un an pierdut...
I met the people and the place in 2011 summer...
then we started the project of a new floor, over a part of a 100 years old building, and a 40 years old wing...
in the begining, we didn't know the destination of the new floor; the decision came later: a neural surgery section, with 30 beds, and its own surgery block, with two surgical rooms;
since then, all the management of the hospital was changed... several times...
an exagerated bureaucratic strictness had split the project in two: two projects, two building authorizations, two series of visas, two building stages... a lot of money spent, a year lost on useless papers...
this is what we found over the old surgical rooms: an immense loft, with pigeon skeletons, garbage, abandoned things...

a few meters away there was built a modern eight floors building, but we were not permited to add one level to ours...
the old roof tiles were removed...
a delicate moment: we were lucky we had no storm, or a wind to pass below this "cover", to blow it as a flying dish...

the slab is made, the steel structure is ready, the lid is on place again...
here comes the new tile covering...

over 1,000sq.m. were built... here, the side with the emergency unit with the new floor added...

cred că am făcut 20.000 de kilometri pe drumul acela...
de atâtea ori am pornit cu noaptea în cap, încât la ieşirea din oraş, când treceam de bulevardul puternic iluminat, simţeam întunericul nopţii ca o izbitură în faţă, şi pur şi simplu mi se făcea rău de la stomac, simţeam greaţă... pentru câteva clipe...
(imaginea e una din foarte puţinele ocazii când nu am mers cu maşina mea şi nu am fost eu şoferul)
I think I made 20,000 kilometers on that road...
I started to drive before the dawn so many times, so that when I was leaving the town, leaving the illuminated boulevard, I was feeling the darkness of the night like a punch in my face; I was just feeling sick from the stomach... for a short while...

bine-nţeles că la recepţia finală, am uitat aparatul foto în maşină, în parcare, şi nu am nici o singură imagine din secţia terminată, frumoasă, funcţională...
secţia de neurochirurgie e folosită de apropae un an; sălile de operaţii funcţionează din primăvară - nu a apărut nici o singură problemă, de niciun fel;
nu am fotografii de la recepţia finală, dar am procesul verbal, fără anexe, fără "cozi": nu lipsesc planşe din proiect sau din dispoziţiile de şantier, nu există lucrări neexecutate, nu există lucrări de construcţii sau instalaţii necorespunzătoare, nu există deloc lucrări care trebuiesc corectate sau refăcute...

of course that, at the final reception I forgot my camera in the car, in the parking, so I don't have any single picture of the new finished, beautiful, functional section...
it is utilised from almost a year, there are surgical operations from the spring;
I don't have pictures of the the completed works, but I have a protocol without annexes, without "tails": no extra papers or drawings needed, no missing works, no construction or instalallation works have to be repared or replaced...
